Hot vs. Cold Therapy

Hot and cold therapy can be used when recovering from an injury and Dr. Loren Morgan is here to tell you when to use which. If you experience muscle aches, cramps, you may benefit more from heat. On the other hand, if you suffer a sprain, a muscle strain, or a headache, you may benefit more from cold therapy. Allow us to explain why. Because cold therapy constricts blood vessels and reduces blood flow when applied, it’s best used for acute injuries such as a sprained ankle, muscle tear, bruising, or inflammation as soon as possible. The reduced blood flow limits the amount of fluid around the injury which will reduce swelling over time. If you frequently experience sore, stiff muscles, heat is best used to improve mobility and increase joint elasticity. Heat should be used prior to exercise while cold therapy should be used after an activity. If you’ve recently been injured and are unsure of how to go about treatment, we can help. Car Accidents

Car accidents that aren’t major collisions are too often overlooked by those involved.  More worried about an insurance claim or being late for work, we don’t always stop to assess what damage may have been done to our bodies. Because of the sudden and unnatural movement of a body during a car accident, anyone involved should visit a chiropractor for evaluation. The staff of Morgan Chiropractic knows that some passengers feel the effects of whiplash injuries immediately following an accident, while others may walk away not feeling injured and experience pain later. This is why a chiropractor should always be consulted. The most common site of pain and stiffness for passengers involved in an accident are the neck and back.  A chiropractor can evaluate these injuries, as well as treat damage to both hard and soft tissue. Depending on a patient’s evaluation the chiropractor may perform an adjustment or assign exercises to help heal a particular injury. If you have been involved in a car a

Chiropractic Treatment for Migraines

Morgan Chiropractic recommends chiropractic adjustments for migraine sufferers who have yet to find relief. Chiropractic treatment will not cure migraines, but it is one of the few ways to be proactive against migraines and help prevent them.  In someone prone to migraine episodes, a trigger can often be a misalignment, or subluxation of the spine.  Migraines can begin with tension in the neck, but even patients without migraines find keeping their neck free of kinks helps improve frequent headaches. Dysfunctional vertebrae in the neck can cause increased muscle tension and interrupt the nerves that control blood flow to the brain. Chiropractic adjustments relieve the pressure and tension that results in headaches, and keep the spine aligned to help it function at its best. The exact cause of migraines is unknown, but most theories acknowledge an interruption in either nerve activity, blood flow to the brain, or both.  Regular chiropractic adjustments also help facilitate healthy blood

Low Back Pain Causes and Treatment

The low back supports the weight of our upper body and allows us to bend and twist on a daily basis. Muscles in the low back are responsible for flexing and rotating the hips while walking, and also doubles in supporting the spinal column. Low back pain can result from standing for long periods of time or even sitting for too long. Dr. Loren Morgan of Morgan Chiropractic may suggest spinal manipulation or adjustments to alleviate the pain. A low back sprain or strain can occur gradually over time, or it may happen out of nowhere. Strains occur when a muscle is stretched too far and tears, while sprains happen when over-stretching affects the surrounding ligaments. To avoid further complications in damaging the low back, take caution when lifting a heavy object, while making any sudden movements, and especially during exercise. If you experience symptoms of low back pain, give us a call to discuss your treatment options. If you have questions or concerns regarding chiropractic treatment

Avoid “Text” Neck

Most of us are guilty and spend way too much time on our phones. But how many of you realize that you are wreaking havoc on your neck and spine while doing so? If you are sitting on a couch, and have your head tilted forward for a long period of time, you are putting almost 30lbs of pressure on your neck and shoulders. Dr. Loren Morgan of Morgan Chiropractic has some tips for avoiding text neck. The repetitive action of looking down at our phones is not healthy for our bodies, let alone our spines. The human head weighs about 10lbs; therefore, for every one-inch that your head tilts forward, you are adding extra weight to your upper body. To relieve this pressure, the next time you reach for your phone; try holding it in front of your head instead of down in your lap. If you keep your neck leveled and elevated, you may notice less pain in your shoulders and neck. If you have questions or concerns regarding chiropractic treatment, please give us a call.
