Avoid “Text” Neck

Most of us are guilty and spend way too much time on our phones. But how many of you realize that you are wreaking havoc on your neck and spine while doing so? If you are sitting on a couch, and have your head tilted forward for a long period of time, you are putting almost 30lbs of pressure on your neck and shoulders. Dr. Loren Morgan of Morgan Chiropractic has some tips for avoiding text neck.

The repetitive action of looking down at our phones is not healthy for our bodies, let alone our spines. The human head weighs about 10lbs; therefore, for every one-inch that your head tilts forward, you are adding extra weight to your upper body. To relieve this pressure, the next time you reach for your phone; try holding it in front of your head instead of down in your lap. If you keep your neck leveled and elevated, you may notice less pain in your shoulders and neck.
