Sciatica

The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body, therefore, when it becomes damaged or if pressure on the nerve increases, this becomes problematic. The sciatic nerve begins in the lumbar spine, which is why the pain is normally felt in the back of the leg, running down the buttock, down the back of the thigh into the calf and foot. If you are experiencing discomfort in these areas, schedule a consultation with Dr. Loren Morgan to discuss treatment.

Sciatic nerve pain can be caused by a bulging disc, degenerative disc disease, pregnancy, or trauma. It can also be a symptom of an underlying condition, such as piriformis syndrome or spondylolisthesis. Sciatica may feel like a leg cramp or sharp, shooting pain, radiating down the leg into the foot. You may also feel numbness, a burning sensation, or a tingling down the leg. Sciatica may heal itself with sufficient time and rest, Dr. Loren Morgan may also suggest a personalized rehabilitation program.
